Materials / Instruments

  • Suzuki Book and corresponding Audio* 
  • Shoulder pad. This must be fitted by the teacher at the first lesson*
  • Suzuki's "Nurtured by Love" and "Ability Development from Age Zero"*
  • Notepad and pen
  • cell phone for video
  • Tote bag or backpack
  • Pretend or real Violin or Viola. This will be sized  by the teacher at the first lesson*

Violins and violas can be purchased or rented based on parent’s preference. Young children are

started with a “pretend” violin which can be made by student and parent as an art project. Children over 7 years are started on a real instrument. The parent may rent or buy their own larger size instrument.


It is not a requirement to rent from me, but it is a requirement to get the size I recommend. Many stores size too big or just give out whatever size they have on hand that day. This makes the instrument difficult to play 

 and impossible to play in tune because they cannot reach the tapes. Over a long period of time this can cause repetitive motion injuries for you or your child. Unfortunately, there is a lot of ignorance around sizing, especially Violas and small instruments.
